God is Loving.

Reading: Psalm 103 & Romans 5:1-11

God is loving. Jen Wilkin shares that “of all His attributes, the love of God is perhaps the hardest to conceive apart from the lesser, human versions of love that shape our understanding.” God’s love is an agape love, meaning “an intelligent, purposeful attitude of esteem and devotion; a self-less, purposeful, outgoing attitude that desires to do good to the one loved.” Because of the attributes we’ve already studied, God’s love is unbound by the limits earthly loves faces. He doesn’t need us to meet his needs or reciprocate or to be worthy for him to love us. No one is unlovable because his love is an act of will and because he never changes, neither does his love.

Reflection Questions

  • Do you believe this to be true?
  • When have you been awed by love? How can you use this experience to increase your awe of God?
  • How have you seen God’s love in your life?
